Approaching the Dragon Boat Festival, many regions in both the South and North of China have already started entering the annual rainy season. Construction during the hot, rainy summer is challenging, and operating excavators poses significant risks!
When urgent work deadlines necessitate construction in the rain and through water,
What precautions should be taken?
How should equipment be parked and maintained when work is stopped?
Let's highlight the key points together!
Beware When Working in the Rain
When working in the rain, it's crucial to observe the surrounding work environment and check if the construction site is soft and prone to sinking. You can try probing the terrain with a bamboo pole; if you find deep mud that could cause sinking, stop work immediately.
During nighttime construction, ensure the excavator's front and rear headlights, work lights, top lights, instrument lights, and wipers are functioning properly. Keep the fuel supply ample to evacuate the work area promptly in emergencies.
Pay special attention during mountainous area construction. Check for fragmented mountains, unreasonable excavations, waste disposal, stone quarrying, etc., and assess the vegetation's adherence to determine the likelihood of landslides, collapses, and mudslides, and prepare accordingly.
Nuances of Working in Water
In principle, try to avoid operating excavators in water. If necessary, ensure the water level does not exceed the center of the upper supporting wheel. If water overflows the swing ring, change the lubricating grease in time. When working in water, do not tilt the excavator more than 15° to prevent damage to the radiator fan. Regularly adjust and clean the track tensioning cylinder to prevent rust.
Careful Storage of Equipment
On rainy days, it's best to store the excavator in a dry indoor location and clean off mud and debris. When parking outdoors, check that the fuel tank and hydraulic oil tank caps are tightly sealed to prevent rainwater from seeping in. Try to retract all cylinders when parking, and apply grease to any exposed cylinder bodies for added protection.
In fact, rainy days are an excellent opportunity for maintenance!
You can take advantage of the rainy days to conduct a comprehensive check-up of your equipment.
