Geological Survey Preparation Before Hydraulic Pile Driver Construction

What Operations Can Cause a Pile Driver to Stall

Before construction in a selected area, a comprehensive survey and documentation of the environment in that area should be conducted. Geological layer surveys mainly analyze geological distribution. Based on geological characteristics, select the appropriate pile driver to perform reasonable piling operations, which helps stabilize the building's early vibration rate and extend its service life. To clarify geological features and lay the groundwork for subsequent pile foundation construction, the following methods are commonly used in modern geological surveys:

1.  Replacement Method:

This method is suitable for silt, muddy soil, collapsible loess, plain fill, mixed fill, underground channels, and shallow treatments of dark ponds. Replacement materials can include medium (coarse) sand, well-graded sand, lime soil, plain soil, stone chips, or coal slag. If the soft soil layer is thin, it can be completely excavated; if the soft soil layer is thick, partial excavation can be done. Sand, gravel, or plain soil can be used for backfilling.

2. Preloading Method:

This method is applicable for handling saturated cohesive soil foundations such as silt, muddy soil, and alluvial soil. The preloading method can be divided into load preloading and vacuum preloading. Preloading includes using plastic drainage belts or sand well foundations and natural foundation preloading. When the soft soil layer thickness is less than 400 meters, the natural foundation preloading method can be used. When the soft soil layer thickness is greater than 4 meters, vertical drainage preloading methods such as plastic drainage belts or sand wells should be used. For vacuum preloading projects, drainage wells should be set up on the foundation. The preloading method mainly addresses settlement and stability issues of the foundation.

3. Sand Pile Method:

This method is suitable for compacting loose sand, silt, cohesive soil, plain fill, and mixed fill foundations. It improves the bearing capacity of the foundation, reduces compressibility, and can also be used to treat liquefiable foundations.

The above methods are used for geological surveys and inspections, providing more operability for pile driver construction.
