Reasons for Slippage in Large Crawler Piling Machines

Slippage often occurs in the construction process of large crawler piling machines primarily due to muddy conditions or the composition of the drilling site. During the repeated use of mud, the conditions of increasing concentration and specific gravity can lead to the formation of a floating drill bit, preventing the piling machine from placing the drill bit at the bottom of the hole. High rotation speeds, combined with the lubrication of the clay cutting surface at the bottom of the hole and the base of the teeth by the mud, cause a side effect that leads to slippage. At this point, reducing the specific gravity of the mud can help. When the drill bit reaches the bottom of the hole, manual control of the power head is initiated, with revolutions gradually increasing to nine revolutions per minute. Slippage varies according to the geological conditions of the construction site. In the case of sandstone, which has low compressive strength, is very dense, and easily interacts with water, choosing the appropriate drill bit and drilling tools, combined with experienced operation, generally does not pose a significant problem.

Slippage can also occur due to the drilling tools of large crawler piling machines not being concentric with the drill rods, with tooth points less than 45 degrees, base cone misalignment, and overly dense teeth. During drilling, forcibly leveling the bottom of the hole at the super excavation site to form the next drill bit, and not fully closing the bucket door when lifting the drill bit, causes a large amount of soil from the bucket to fall to the bottom of the hole, leading to slippage. If the rotation speed is too fast, selecting the appropriate sludge drilling, operation, and drill bit are fundamental elements to address slippage. For example, excessive speed of the power head without a range of slow to fast speeds, structural reasons of large crawler piling machines, insufficient pressure, and a specific degree of bending from long-term use of the drill rod are causes of slippage.
