Avoid Overturning: 7 Key Precautions for Operating an Excavator!

Although the phenomenon of excavators overturning while moving is not common, it can be a serious matter when it does happen. It is especially important to learn from others' experiences and take measures to avoid such accidents. Today, Xiao Wang will briefly talk about the precautions to take when an excavator is moving.

  1. 1. Before moving the excavator, check the road conditions, remove obstacles on the road, keep unrelated personnel away from the excavator, then lift the bucket to prepare for departure.

  2. 2. Check the direction of the track frame, determine the position of the drive wheel, then honk the horn, and the excavator will start moving slowly.

  3. 3. When the excavator is reversing, estimate the space behind the vehicle in advance. If the blind spot is too large, it's advisable to have someone guide and coordinate from behind.

  4. 4. The driver should control the moving speed according to the road conditions. On open flat ground, “gear 1” can be selected, where the excavator's moving speed will automatically increase or decrease based on 5. the working pressure of the hydraulic walking circuit; on slopes, “gear 0” can be selected for low-speed, high-torque movement.

  5. 5. When the excavator is moving, try to choose a flat surface, avoid rotating the upper turntable, and be careful of rocks damaging the walking motor and track frame on rough terrain.

  6. 6. When the excavator is moving on a slope, try to drive in a straight line; keep the bucket 20-30 cm above the ground, and immediately lower the bucket in case of slipping or tilting. If the engine stalls and stops on a slope, place the bucket on the ground, set the control lever to the middle position, and then restart the engine.

  7. 7. Avoid walking the excavator in water as much as possible. If it is necessary to wade through water, be sure to explore the water depth and the softness and flatness of the underwater platform in advance. Do not operate in water if the mud is too deep or if the water level exceeds the tracks.
