Why should grease not be applied to the nuts of a highway guardrail piling machine?

The highway guardrail piling machine is a type of highway guardrail steel pipe piling equipment. It uses diesel power and full hydraulic mechanical transmission. It features easy mobility, high positioning accuracy, durability, energy efficiency, and environmental friendliness. It is especially suitable for the installation, maintenance, and onsite repair of highway guardrails. Many maintenance personnel apply oil on tire bolts and nuts to easily tighten the nuts and prevent rust. However, this is actually the wrong approach. Screws have a self-locking function because the tire nuts have been tightened.

This is because the helix angle of the thread is smaller than the equivalent friction angle between the threads. For a specific bolt connection, the helix angle is a fixed value, and the equivalent friction angle depends on the friction between the threads. Obviously, after lubrication, the equivalent friction angle between the threads decreases, reducing the self-locking performance of the bolt connection. Therefore, grease should never be applied to tire bolts and nuts. The nuts may loosen and cause accidents.
