Precautions for Use and Maintenance of Mechanical Locking Rod Rotary Drilling Rigs

Precautions for using the drill rod in mechanical locking rod rotary drilling rigs:

The drill rod and drill bit can only be used for drilling pile holes and must not be used for transferring soil, transporting, or leveling the construction site, etc. Never immerse the drill in liquid concrete. Drilling operations can only commence when the drill bit is in contact with the bottom of the hole.

When drilling through sand or gravel layers, the operator must pay special attention not to drill too deep in one go, as this may cause the diameter of the hole wall to shrink, leaving no gap between the drill bit cylinder wall and the hole wall. This can result in the drill bit not being able to rotate or be lifted, causing serious accidents such as drill sticking.

When using a mechanical locking rod, please pay attention to the following when withdrawing the drill rod from the pile hole. If the outer section of the drill rod is withdrawn from the power head too early, it indicates that a section of the drill rod has not been fully unlocked when retracting. In this case, the following steps must be taken:

  (1) Immediately stop the lifting action of the main winch to avoid the drill rod opening by itself during lifting. The unlocked section of the drill rod could freely slide down and cause a fall, which is a very serious loss and could possibly lead to the scrapping of the entire drill rod and pile hole.

  (2) Slowly lower the drill rod back to the bottom of the drilling hole, reverse the drill rod to ensure it is unlocked before withdrawing it.

  (3) After discharging the soil, remove the drill rod for inspection.

  (4) Open up the drill rod for a thorough check and repair.
