@All hardworking partners,
Have you started feeling the chill in the morning air?
The footsteps of winter are quietly approaching!
Don’t forget to schedule a “winter care plan” for your drilling rig companion,
so it can stay full of energy even in the coldest days!
Hengwang thoughtfully presents a few winter maintenance tips—
save them now!
01 Choose the Right “Fuel” for Maximum Power!
Diesel for drilling rigs changes with the seasons. In winter, use light diesel because it has a lower freezing point, better fluidity, and higher injection efficiency.
Tips:
The diesel freezing point should be at least 10°C lower than the local minimum temperature. For example, 0# or -30# diesel works well!
During winter, switch to higher-grade engine oil such as 10W-30 or 5W-40, or even higher grades. For warmer southern regions, you can decide whether to change the oil based on the local temperature.
02 “Refill” the Right Way!
Replacing coolant with antifreeze is a must for winter maintenance! If the rig is idle, make sure to completely drain the cooling water. Any leftover water could freeze, expand, and crack the engine.
Reminder: Avoid draining water when the machine is hot. Sudden exposure to cold air can cause contraction cracks due to thermal shock.
03 Warm-Up Exercises Before Winter Work!
Don’t let the diesel engine start at full throttle immediately. During cold starts, the engine oil hasn’t fully lubricated the machine—this is like delivering a “heavy punch” to your rig.
The Correct Way: Start the engine, let it idle for 3-5 minutes, and slowly move components like the bucket to get them going. Once the coolant temperature reaches 60°C, the drilling rig is ready to work at full energy!
04 Keep Your Rig Warm!
Post-Operation Warmth Tips:
Cover the engine with thermal curtains or insulation covers.
Use radiator baffle curtains to block the cold wind.
For engines with oil coolers, switch to the “low-temperature gear” to keep the oil circulating through a short route for better warmth!
Idle Maintenance Tips:
If possible, store the rig indoors. If not, cover it with an “insulation coat” to shield it from the wind and cold.
05 Don’t Ignore the Brake System!
The brake system is your rig’s winter safety guardian. If it fails, the consequences can be severe.
Check the Brake Fluid: Low temperatures can thicken brake fluid, reducing braking efficiency. Replace it with a low-temperature-compatible brake fluid and check the fluid level regularly.
Inspect Brake Pads: Winter work conditions are harsh—mud and sand can accumulate on brake pads, affecting braking performance. Regular cleaning ensures sensitivity.
Brake Line Maintenance: Brake lines can freeze in winter. Check for ice blockages before operation and heat the lines if necessary to ensure safe braking.
